"And we thought 'Snoopy' would be perfect for the LEM, since we had selected
Snoopy earlier in the year as NASA's overall symbol of excellence...so we
thought by calling it 'Snoopy,' we would thus be honoring all the people who
helped build the entire program. But we really didn't think about a name
for the command module at first. Then one day - during a simulation -
someone, I think it was John Young, said 'Good grief, Charlie Brown,' and
we suddenly thought that 'Charlie Brown' would be a great partner for
Snoopy in space..."
