Because the transponder on the Agena 8 no longer function, the astronauts had to use a recticle to calculate closing distance and speed when attempting rendezvous. This was the first space rendezvous accomplished without using on-board radar.

Mike Collins space walk to rendezvous with the Agena 8 target demonstrated that the U.S. had the capability to inspect any space vehicle in orbit.
Gemini 10 stamp
During the rendezvous with Agena 8, Collins retrieved a canister of microorganisms that had been exposed to space conditions since the Gemini 8 mission. Some of the organisms had survived.
