Rockwell News - May 28, 1981
Astronauts return to Columbia birthplace and hearty welcome from Rockwell
employees and families, May 13, 14 at Downey and Palmdale. The STS-1 crew
of John Young, left center, and Bob Crippen, center right, returned to thank
the many people who built the spacecraft for their dedication and effort, and
to praise its high performance during the tremendous first flight. After
landing on the helicopter pad, decorated with a full color, 40-ft replica of
their crew patch, Young and Crippen were taken through the crowd and an
unending flurry of confetti where they were greeted by thousands of enthusiastic
well-wishers.
