An Atlas-Agena launch vehicle was launched at 3:39 pm, EST, July 18, 1966 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from Complex 14, Cape Kennedy, Fla. The purpose of the launch is to insert the Gemini Agena Target Vehicle into a 185-statute-mile circular orbit. Astronauts John W. Young, command pilot, and Michael Collins, pilot, will be launched into Earth orbit approximately ninety minutes later by a Titan II booster from Complex 19 to rendezvous with the Agena Target Vehicle. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration plans a three-day Earth orbital mission to include rendezvous, docking and Collins will conduct extravehicular activities.
