not available Goddard Astronautics Award

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
http://www.aiaa.org

March 12, 2000

This award is the highest honor AIAA bestows for notable achievement in the field of astronautics. It was endowed by Mrs. Goddard to commemorate her husband, Robert H. Goddard - rocket visionary, pioneer, bold experimentalist, and superb engineer, whose early liquid rocket engine launches set the stage for the development of astronautics. The award is generally presented at the Honors Night Banquet, in conjunction with the AIAA Global Air and Space Conference.

The award received its current form in 1975, when the Institute changed the name and widened the selection criteria of its former Goddard Award (which had been bestowed for contributions in the engineering science of propulsion and energy conversion).
